Hi readers, today I will give you a few insights into the Jordanian cuisine and culture. I went there for a week in 2025, and it was one of the best weeks in my life, without a doubt. I spent a lot of time with local people and tasted and experienced a lot of their food and culture as a result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The country of Jordan is of course famous for having a world wonder, Petra. But did you know that they also have a very nice cuisine? One of their best meals is the Makloubeh. I had the honour of tasting it, and it was delicious! It is a meal made with rice, vegetables and chicken. The special thing about it was the serving manner. After cooking, when the meal is ready, they flip the pan on a large plate to show the ingredients of the meal, like cauliflower and cashew nuts. It’s often made to feed a lot of people, since the people in Jordan like to eat with big parts of their family. So you can imagine how hard it is to flip the pan and not spill all the food!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

When having breakfast or lunch in Jordan, you will likely get Khobez bread. This looks a little bit like pita bread, but is not entirely the same. You can add some Labneh, which is a kind of yoghurt, and Za\u2019ater, a herb blend often mixed with it to make it taste absolutely delicious. You can also make one with vegetables, like tomatoes and cucumber, or use them as a side dish. Often, there will also be some eggs, as an addition to the Khobez bread. You can also put some Halva on your Kobez bread. This is a sweet snack, so you can also eat it without the bread. And often you will also find falafel in the range of ingredients you might want to add to your Khobez bread.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Another big thing in Jordan is their coffee. This is not just your normal coffee. If you get coffee in Jordan, it’s going to be Arabic coffee, which is more like a shot of coffee than a normal cup. This coffee includes a lot of spices and is very, very strong. So be aware of that when you get your coffee from the locals! Another big thing is their tea. This is super sweet, as they add lots and lots of sugar in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When visiting the country, you need to be aware of their incredible hospitality. You could almost walk in every house and get coffee or tea, together with a few snacks. And even when roaming the streets, you can get invited to drink some coffee with the locals. When I was in Amman, the capital of Jordan, it even happened that I just so much as waved to a couple sitting on their balcony, and the next thing I know they\u2019re inviting me and the people I was with over for a coffee. So be aware who you greet, or you find yourself drinking coffee with the locals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I hope I gave you a little insight into the diverse Jordanian cuisine and culture. Make sure to try Makloubeh when visiting Jordan, and don\u2019t worry about the Khobez bread, you won\u2019t be able to miss it when visiting this beautiful country.
